How The Social Handle helped B3 Industries build a digital presence and turn happy customers into powerful online reviews.
Imagine having 23 years of experience in your industry, a hardworking crew, and customers who genuinely appreciate your work. You've built your business on your reputation, word of mouth, and showing up when people need you. But there's one problem.
When someone searches for your services on Google, your business is nowhere to be found. That was the reality for B3 Industries, a locally owned business serving Roanoke Rapids and surrounding areas throughout Eastern North Carolina. And it's a situation more small business owners find themselves in than you might think.
A Great Reputation Deserves to Be Found
When I started working with Brandon Buffaloe, owner of B3 Industries, he already had something that no marketing agency could create for him: 23 years of hands-on experience and a reputation built through hard work. What he didn't have was an established digital presence (No website. No Google Business Profile. No social media channels showcasing the work his crew was doing every day).
For a business offering services such as tree removal, tree trimming, commercial aerial lighting, and commercial cleaning, that meant potential customers searching online had very few ways to discover B3 Industries. Our goal at The Social Handle was simple: Take the reputation Brandon had already built offline and make sure people could find it online.
We started by establishing the foundation. We developed a website that showcased B3 Industries' services, created and optimized a Google Business Profile, and established social media channels where Brandon could share completed projects, customer experiences, and the people behind the business. But one of the most important conversations we had wasn't about websites or social media. It was about Google reviews.
Let's Talk About Google Business Profiles
If you own a small business and haven't claimed or created your Google Business Profile, you're overlooking one of the most valuable free marketing tools available to you.And yes, I said FREE. A Google Business Profile allows your business to appear in Google Search and Google Maps when potential customers are looking for services in your area.
Think about how you search for a business. Maybe you need someone to remove a tree that's dangerously close to your house. You pull out your phone and search for "tree removal near me." What happens next? Google displays local businesses, often showing their locations or service areas, customer reviews, photos, contact information, and websites. Now ask yourself: If your business isn't showing up, how will those customers know you exist?
That's why creating and managing B3 Industries' Google Business Profile was one of our first priorities. We wanted potential customers throughout Eastern North Carolina to find Brandon's business, understand the services he offered, and have an easy way to contact him. Of course, setting up a profile is only the beginning.Keeping business information accurate, adding photos, responding to reviews, and maintaining an active presence all contribute to a stronger online foundation. And that brings me to my favorite part of this story.
How One Simple Strategy Led to Five 5-Star Google Reviews
During our conversations, I explained to Brandon how important customer reviews would be for his business. Not because five-star reviews magically guarantee more customers. But because reviews provide something that a website or social media post simply cannot manufacture, trust.
You can tell people all day long that you provide exceptional service. But when a customer takes the time to share their experience, that carries a different kind of weight. Google also considers review quantity and positive ratings among the factors that influence local search rankings. So we made gathering reviews part of our strategy. And here's the best part: Google makes it incredibly easy.
Business owners can access a direct review link and QR code through their Google Business Profile. These tools allow customers to go straight to the review section without searching for the business themselves. I took it one step further. I created a fun, branded graphic that Brandon could send directly to customers after completing a job.
The idea was simple, make leaving a review as convenient as possible. Just a friendly request and an easy way to share feedback!
And guess what happened?
Within a week, the reviews started coming in. B3 Industries now has five five-star Google reviews, and every single one speaks to the quality of Brandon's work and the professionalism of his crew. Customers are talking about fair pricing, difficult tree removals, thorough cleanup, and jobs completed with care. One customer described how Brandon and his team removed a 50-foot tree dangerously close to a house, ground the stump, and left the property looking as though the tree had never been there.
Another shared how the crew removed a fallen tree from a music school without causing additional damage to the building or patio. These are real stories from real customers about real work. And now, when someone discovers B3 Industries online, those experiences are there for them to read.
Making It Easy for Customers to Leave a Google Review
Sometimes the simplest marketing strategies make the biggest impact. We created a branded graphic for B3 Industries featuring a QR code that takes customers directly to their Google review page. Paired with a direct review link, Brandon now has an easy, convenient way to request feedback after every completed job.
Reviews Are Just One Piece of the Marketing Pie
I tell my clients this often: Marketing isn't just one single thing. It's a combination of efforts working together to build awareness, establish credibility, and create opportunities for your business. Your website, Google Business Profile, social media presence, branding, photography, content, and customer communication all play an important role in your overall marketing strategy. And customer reviews? They're a very important piece of that pie. Here's why.
1. Reviews build trust before the first conversation.
When someone is considering hiring a company, especially for a major project, they want reassurance that they're making the right decision. Reviews allow potential customers to hear directly from people who have already worked with that business.
2. Reviews support local search visibility.
Google considers review quantity and positive ratings as part of its local ranking factors. Reviews alone won't put your business at the top of search results, but they can contribute to your overall local visibility.
3. Reviews help customers make decisions.
Imagine comparing two tree removal companies. One has no reviews or online presence. The other has photos of completed projects, a professional website, and customers describing their positive experiences.
Which one would you feel more comfortable calling?
4. Reviews create content opportunities.
With a customer's permission when needed, positive reviews can be highlighted on social media, featured on your website, or incorporated into marketing materials.
One great review can help tell your business's story across multiple platforms.
5. Reviews provide valuable feedback.
Not every review will be five stars, and that's okay. Customer feedback gives businesses an opportunity to recognize what they're doing well and identify areas where they can improve.
How you respond to reviews matters, too.
Turning Great Work into a Five-Star Reputation
With a simple review strategy in place, B3 Industries is turning satisfied customers into powerful testimonials that help build trust and credibility with potential customers.
Real Customers, Real Experiences
From removing a fallen tree to protecting a customer's property, B3 Industries' five-star reviews tell the story of a reputation built on quality workmanship and customer satisfaction.
The Secret? You Have to Ask.
Here's something I've learned from working with small business owners: Many happy customers are more than willing to leave a review, but they simply don't think about doing it. They're busy, they move on with their day, and while they appreciate the work you've done, leaving a review isn't always top of mind. That's why asking matters.
You don't need an elaborate marketing campaign to get started. Sometimes, all it takes is a friendly follow-up message after completing a job. Thank your customer for choosing your business, let them know how much their feedback means, and provide a direct link where they can share their experience. Make it personal, make it easy, and most importantly, make it part of your regular customer follow-up process. Remember, the goal is to encourage honest feedback from all your customers, not just those you think will leave five stars.
For B3 Industries, this simple addition to the customer experience helped turn years of hard work and a strong reputation into something potential customers can now see for themselves.
Building an Online Presence Doesn't Happen Overnight
I want to make something clear: Five five-star reviews are a fantastic start, but we're not finished. Building a meaningful digital presence takes time, consistency, and a strategy that makes sense for the business. For B3 Industries, we're continuing to strengthen that presence through website content, search engine optimization (SEO), social media, Google Business Profile management, and customer engagement.
The goal isn't simply to collect reviews or post pretty pictures. It's to create a digital presence that reflects the quality of work Brandon and his team have been delivering for more than two decades. Because that's what good marketing should do. It shouldn't invent a reputation; it should help the right people discover the reputation you've already earned.
Your Business Deserves to Be Found, Too.
If there's one thing I hope other small business owners take away from this story, it's that you don't have to be a new business to need a marketing strategy. You might have 10, 20, or even 30 years of experience, a loyal customer base, and a calendar full of work. But what happens when someone who has never heard of your business searches online for the services you offer? Will they find you? Will they know what you do? Will they see what your customers have to say? If the answer is no, there's an opportunity to change that.
At The Social Handle, I work with small businesses to build an online presence that reflects who they are, what they do, and why their customers trust them. From website development and Google Business Profile management to social media marketing and content strategy, my focus is on helping business owners spend less time worrying about marketing and more time doing what they do best. Because at the end of the day, you can be exceptional at what you do, but your business deserves to be seen, too.
